Happy Holiday Bread

For testing out your baking skills? Try this bread idea full twists and swirls! All you need are the following ingredients and a whole lot of love. Everything tastes better with love right? Bon appetite!

• 2 teaspoons dry instant yeast
• 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
• 100ml warm milk
• 500g all-purpose flour, plus extra for kneading and flouring
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 2 eggs, lightly beaten
• 150 ml warm milk (extra)
• 2 tablespoons olive oil
• 1/2 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice
• 100 g butter, melted and cooled

For the Glaze:
• 1 egg yolk
• 2 tablespoons milk

1. The first thing you need to do is activate the yeast. To do this, dissolve the yeast and sugar in a container with 100 ml warm milk. Cover and leave it for 10 minutes.

2. Next thing, mix together in a bowl the flour and salt. Make a well in the middle then add your eggs, remaining warm milk, olive oil, vinegar and sugar-yeast mixture. With your hands start kneading your dough until it separates from the sides of the bowl. Once that’s done, remove the dough from the bowl and place on a lightly floured surface and knead again for 10 minutes until your dough becomes soft and pliable. Place your dough into a greased bowl, cover it with a towel and leave for about an hour to allow the dough to rise.

3. Once your dough has doubled in size, punch. Yes punch it a few times. Transfer on a floured surface then divide into 8 equal pieces.

4. Roll each piece into a rough rectangular shape with a thickness of 3-5 mm. Brush each piece with cooled melted butter.

5. Now pair up your rectangle pieces, place each one on top each other then roll into a cylinder. Repeat to all remaining pieces do you will end up with 4 rolls.

6. Cut off the ends of each roll. With the middle make 4 triangles.

7. You can now preheat your oven to 180 degrees. Grease or line your baking tray.

8. Form a circle with the cut ends of the rolls. Place the cut side down. Around that arrange the triangles, alternate where the apex of the triangles point.

9. Cover with a towel then leave to rise for 30-40 minutes in a warm place.
Tip: you can place your rising dough beside your oven while it’s preheating

10. To make the glaze, beat the egg yolk and milk. Brush this glaze on top of the bread before baking.

11. Bake your bread for 20-30 minutes or until golden.

12. As soon as your bread comes out of the oven brush it with melted butter. Voila! Enjoy! (Intan Noor)
